Description:Stromatolites are some of the oldest living organisms on the planet. Stromatolites are lamellar structures formed by microorganisms, mainly cyanobacteria, and CaCO3 precipitated due to the metabolic activity of these organisms. They are porous rock structures produced by the growth of cyanobacteria that generate a mucilaginous layer in which carbonates precipitate and where sediments become trapped. With the passage of time they grow in size and end up consolidating as rocks (Source: 100% natural piece, cut and polished.
