History: The Zhanjiang Indochinite tektites, despite their association with meteorite impacts, are not meteorites themselves, as they are not direct remains of the meteorite. They were formed approximately 800,000 years ago during a meteorite impact event. This event caused the fusion and vaporization of rocks and soil in the region, leading to the formation of tektites. This glass solidifies fast in the air, adopting aerodynamic shapes influenced by gravity, as it falls to the ground thousands of kilometers from the impact crater. Its expansion radius covers Southeast Asia and part of Indonesia. They are important for understanding past catastrophic events and for studying geology and astrophysics. Its age is determined by various geological methods, such as radiometric dating, which uses the decay of radioactive isotopes in minerals present in tektites to determine its age.
