Prognathodon is an extinct genus of mosasaurid sauropsids that lived during the Late Cretaceous, in what is now North America, Europe and Africa. Related to modern monitor lizards, these marine reptiles were highly successful predators that, had it not been for the Cretaceous–Paleogene extinction event, would most likely still be with us.
