 Description: The Fezouata formation or Fezouata schist contains extraordinary fossils due to the fact that the animals were quickly buried by storm deposits formed by silt and clays, favorable conditions for the conservation of soft tissues (now pyritized or altered due to a mixture of oxides and iron hydroxides, hence its orange-red color)
 The fossils belong to two intervals, Tremadocian and Floian, much less rich in fossils.
 
Aglaspids (Aglaspidida, also known as Aglaspida) are a group of extinct arthropods, which lived between the Cambrian and Silurian (500 - 390 million years ago). His remains have been found in North America, Europe, and Australia.
 The appearance of these animals was quite similar to that of other primitive arthropods, the trilobites, from which they differed by some fundamental characteristics. The exoskeleton, for example, was not distinguished in the characteristic longitudinal "three lobes", but only in the transverse ones (prosome, opistosome and caudal column). The Cephalus was broad and flat, with a very robust structure and shaped like a horseshoe; it was often fitted with back-facing spines. The eyes were highly developed and protruded from the upper part of the Cephalus. The thorax consisted of wide, flat segments, very similar in shape to each other, in numbers between ten and fifteen. The tail (telson) consisted of a remarkably elongated spine. In general, the aglaspids reached considerable dimensions for the arthropod, and sometimes exceeded 20 centimeters in length. Fossils of aglaspids are very rare, despite having a fairly widespread geographical and temporal distribution. Many of its fossils have been found in deposits that originate in freshwater, or very shallow water environments.
